Resumo

Como uma forma de aproximar a universidade da comunidade e dos pequenos agricultores locais, surge em 2017 a Polifeira do Agricultor, fruto de um projeto de extensão do Colégio Politécnico da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) com o objetivo oferecer ao público consumidor uma alternativa saudável e acessível de alimentos. Esta iniciativa possibilita a interação entre diversos atores locais, universidade, comunidade e pequenos agricultores da região, sendo uma importante ferramenta de desenvolvimento local. Desta forma, o presente estudo tem por objetivo investigar os benefícios gerados pela Polifeira do Agricultor na relação entre a UFSM e comunidade santa-mariense. Para tanto, realizaram-se entrevistas com doze agricultores participantes da feira e com dois atores que são responsáveis pelo funcionamento da iniciativa, e aplicação de questionário com os consumidores da Polifeira. Como resultados, tem-se que a iniciativa é local propício para troca de informações para agricultores e consumidores. Além disso, a Polifeira apresenta-se como facilitadora da aproximação entre comunidade e universidade. Pode-se destacar que a Polifeira serve como exemplo de projeto de extensão com enfoque na sustentabilidade e agricultura familiar, estimulando outros projetos nesta e, em outras, temáticas relevantes.

As a way to bring the university closer to the community and to small local farmers, in 2017, the Farmer's Multi-Market emerged as a result of an extension project of the Polytechnic College of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) with the objective of offering an alternative healthy and affordable food for the consumer public. This initiative allows the interaction between various local actors such as university, community and small farmers of the region, being an important local development tool. In this way, the present study aims to investigate the benefits generated by the Farmer's Multi-Market in the relationship between the UFSM and the Santa Maria community. To do so, interviews were conducted with twelve farmers participating in the fair and with two of the actors responsible for the operation of the initiative, and questionnaire application with the consumers of the Polifeira. As a result, the initiative is a good place to exchange information for farmers and consumers. In addition, the Polifeira presents itself as a facilitator of the community-university approach. It can be highlighted that the Polifeira serves as an example of extension project with focus on sustainability and family agriculture, stimulating other projects in this and, in other, relevant themes.
