A problemática de descarte irregular de resíduos sólidos agrava quando o ambiente contaminado configura em Área de Preservação Permanente (APPs), visto que o bem-estar a população humana e a proteção ambiental, assegurada por estas áreas, fica comprometido. Uma vez que a Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) está em processo de licenciamento ambiental, a identificação e eliminação de pontos de descartes irregulares de resíduos sólidos é de suma importância. Assim, o estudo realizado objetivou localizar, identificar e caracterizar os resíduos descartados irregularmente nas APPs da UFSM. Este trabalho foi realizado em colaboração com o Setor de Planejamento Ambiental, ligado a Pro reitoria de Infraestrutura, que é responsável pela gestão ambiental da UFSM. Foi identificado a existência de 7 pontos de descarte irregular de resíduos distribuídos em APPs, em que se encontrou principalmente resíduos de construção civil, recicláveis, rejeitos e eletroeletrônicos. Os resíduos terão destinações diferentes conforme suas características e legislações vigente. Ainda não se pode mensurar a degradação que estas áreas sofreram, serão necessários estudos de avaliações ambiental posteriores a eliminação dos depósitos irregulares.

The problem of irregular disposal of solid waste is aggravated when the contaminated environment configures in Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs), since the well-being of the human population and the environmental protection, ensured by these areas, is compromised. Since the Federal University of Santa Maria (FUSM) is in the process of environmental licensing, the identification and elimination of irregular solid waste disposal points is of paramount importance. Thus, the study aimed to locate, identify and characterize the waste disposed irregularly in the FUSM PPAs. This work was carried out in collaboration with the Environmental Planning Sector, linked to the Infrastructure Dean, which is responsible for the environmental management issues of FUSM. It was identified the existence of 7 points of irregular disposal of waste distributed in PPAs, which were found mainly construction waste, recyclable, tailings and electronics. Waste will have different destination according to its characteristics and current legislation. Although the degradation that these areas have suffered cannot be measured, studies of environmental assessments after the elimination of irregular deposits will be necessary.
