Resumo

Resíduos de Serviços de Saúde (RSS) representam uma pequena parcela dos resíduos gerados pela atividade humana, contudo merecem uma atenção especial desde o momento da geração até a disposição final, uma vez que possuem características físicas e agentes químicos e biológicos que oferecem riscos ambientais e à saúde pública. O Plano de Gerenciamento de Resíduos de Serviço de Saúde (PGRSS) foi criado com objetivo principal de estabelecer práticas para a gestão responsável dos resíduos dentro das unidades de atendimento de saúde. No entanto, nem sempre o Plano é atendido em sua totalidade. Sendo assim, este trabalho teve o objetivo de analisar a gestão de resíduos sólidos gerados nas atividades da clínica do curso de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Sergipe – UFS. Metodologicamente, foi realizado um estudo de caso descritivo a partir de observações ‘in loco”, análise de documentos e entrevistas com 36 funcionários da clínica estudada. Os resultados mostraram que a clínica pesquisada sequer possui um PGRSS próprio, utiliza-se do Hospital Universitário, razão pela qual foi sugerida sua imediata elaboração e implementação e por fim espera que outros estudos dessa natureza sejam realizados na mesma instituição e em outras com o intuito de acompanhar e aferir a evolução da gestão e trazer melhorias para o processo de manejo desses resíduos.

Health Service Waste (SSR) represents a small portion of the waste generated by human activity, however, they deserve special attention from the moment of generation to the final disposal, since they have physical characteristics and chemical and biological agents that offer environmental and public health risks. The Health Service Waste Management Plan (PGRSS) was created with the main objective of establishing practices for the responsible management of waste within health care units. However, the Plan is not always fulfilled in its entirety. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the management of solid waste generated in the activities of the dentistry course clinic of the Federal University of Sergipe - UFS. Methodologically, a descriptive case study was conducted based on observations 'on the spot', analysis of documents and interviews with 36 employees of the studied clinic. The results showed that the researched clinic does not even have its own PGRSS, using the University Hospital, which is why its immediate elaboration and implementation was suggested and finally expects that other studies of this nature will be carried out in the same institution and in others in order to monitor and measure the evolution of management and bring improvements to the management process of these residues.
